Talk about putting your best face forward. While most of us worry about wrinkles and lines, Connie Culp revealed today why she is just glad to have a face at all. After a shotgun blast five years ago destroyed most of her face, Connie was left with a horribly disfigured face until five months ago when she received the worlds first transplant. Today the rest of the world got to see the results of this groundbreaking effort. This is a ase of technology for the betterment of mankind.
The next time you view yourself in the mirror, remember Connie Culp and her predicament, and enjoy whats looking back at you.

Pandemic?
Good lord, with the onset of the Swine flu pandemic and now the earthquake in Mexico City, any person of even slightly religious tendencies might believe the end is near. If all you read about is the 149 or so deaths in Mexico from the flu, and about the 5.6 magnatude earthquake that struck Mexico City early this morning you might be led to believe its the time of the end days.
Panic begins to creep in as you read about the WHO declaring pandemic status and flu vaccine being readied worldwide. One could easily think we are on the brink of disaster.
Lets be real for a moment here. About 36,000 people die world wide each year from various strains of flu and that garners little news. The truth is, swine is just another type of flu and like all the others kills the weak. This means the elderly, the young, and those with compromised immune systems.
So before you panic and run pelmel out into the streets, use the internet and do your research. Discover its just another case of cry wolf and go back to your normal routine. If you feel you must do something, then take this as a chance to improve your overall health and diet program.

Pontiac circling the drain ?
According to unnamed sources , GM says that the company will officially retire the Pontiac line on Monday. This announcement will bring GM's brands down to four -- Chevrolet, Cadillac, GMC and Buick. Will this spell the end of the careers of such muscle car legends as the Pontiac GTO and Firebird? Will it also end the young career of the Pontiac G8, which drew strong praise from the automotive world and revived interest in the brand.
As GM struggles to survive and restructure to avoid bankruptcy and meet government deadlines they continue to deliver more bad news for employees and consumers alike. With the death of brand after brand like the Governor Terminator favorite, the Hummer, what was once the worlds largest corporation attempts to reinvent itself and thrive in a new world economy.
We all want the American auto industry to survive and flourish, but at what cost and to whom? How many of our tax dollars do we continue to throw at these companies and to what end? Are we as a nation to benefit from our investment or, as many have suggested, just let them die and leave this industry to whoever has the wherewithall to survive.
I have an admittedly selfish interest in all of this. I want one of the new Camaros', and who knows what will become of this beautiful example of just how innovative US automakers can be if GM falls. It creates quite a dilemma for me as I ponder who will pay for their continued survival. Maybe if everyone could just buy a new car with the governments bailout money then we would all benefit and the auto giants would not go the way of the dinosaurs and the Dodo bird.
Keep an eye on the headlines next week, its going to be a rough one for anyone employed in any aspect of the manufacture and sale of automobiles.

I have until now not felt as though I could praise much of what President Obama has done as he nears his first 100 days in office. The signing of the Edward M. Kennedy Serve America Act promoting service and volunteerism has me doing just that. I am a staunch Republican-less government-more personnel initiative etc so I always salute anything that promotes action without throwing too much of our tax dollars away.. In borrowing from the JFK book, Obama has hopefully moved the spirit of Americans to reach out and help each other. Times are hard, and that is when this great nation of ours always shines. Whatever your political persuassion, take heed and follow the presidents lead and lets put our country back together and lead once again.

UFC 97 Redemption
It seems this round of UFC fights is generating very little excitement or buzz on the net. I have yet to see a disappointing fight that features Anderson "The Spider"Silva. This guy has got to be one of the smartest fighters around. He starts slow, figures his opponent out and then BAM, its all over. I also never miss a Chuck The Iceman Liddell fight. Sometimes they can be quite a disappointment, but if the Iceman showsw up, what a show. Enjoy the entire card as its all televised, more bang for your buck. Who knows, the UFC is always good for a suprise or two
